Epstein machine in "SovElMash"
Recently Igor Korkhov - the leading engineer in "SovElMash" - has given a graphic example of what happens if winding specialists save copper due to using a reduced amount of this precious metal. The video with the explanations can be found here: https://youtu.be/N61kw1-Mo3I
And today Vadim Blinov, the head of the pilot and experimental department, will tell you what an Epstein machine is and what for it is used in "SovElMash" laboratory.
An Epstein machine is a unit for measuring the magnetic parameters of sheet electrical steel. In order to analyze the parameters and properties of metal, it is cut into strips the size of a regular school ruler and are put into magnet units installed into the machine.
Inside the magnet units there are steel sheets that form a closed core. The magnet units magnetize the tested steel and their secondary coils transmit the signal to the laboratory complex where the specifications of electrical steel are displayed on the computer screen with the help of special software.
Using the Epstein machine, it's possible to magnetize or demagnetize metal and determine its initial magnetic permeability. As a rule, electrical steel is used for stator winding and producing rotors, for these purposes the special steel of grade 2412 is purchased.
In OOO "SovElMash" this unit is used for incoming inspection of metal properties at procurement. Besides, measuring the magnetic parameters of electrical steel is necessary for using in the software system for making accurate calculations.
In the end of the video you will see what the current stage of preparing the winding area for operation is where the equipment mounting continues.
