In the 30s of the last century America supplied equipment to Russia. At that time, American motors were short-pitched and got named “Amerikanka” (“American”).
When our combined winding system was developed, the winding specialists who were working with it suggested giving it a patriotic name “Slavayanka” (“Slav”) as opposed to the foreign “Amerikanka”.
